In my experience, it takes approximately 4-6 feet (depending on length of tassel and how bushy you want it) to make a tassel with this ribbon.
What is recycled sari ribbon? It's very popular right now, and there are a ton of varieties There is a lot of mystery to this recycled sari silk. First and most importantly....it is RECYCLED... and it isn't perfect. There can be small knots, and sometimes you will find an area where the ribbon was stitched together to get the desired longer length. Each batch is different and varies in widths and textures.
So...why all the rage about this recycled sark silk?
Well, it's fun, exotic, very inexpensive, and it helps the planet! It gives us a peek into another world of colors and textures, and it sparks the imagination. On top of that, it helps support women in third world countries so they can help support their families. It gives them purpose and employment. It is a fair trade product and there is no child labor.
This beautiful ribbon can be used for crochet, knitting, felting ( with the help of plenty of wool to help secure it) embroidery, embellishing , jewelry, and adding to any project to give it a unique look....can be very boho. It can be quite stiff when knit. My favorite thing to use this ribbon for is making chic tassels!
